Religious Education

Mother of God School has a strong Catholic identity. Students experience this through  participation in prayer, liturgies, parish and school Masses, and religious education lessons that help them to know, understand, engage with and respond to the Catholic tradition. We embrace and celebrate the diverse faith identities of our school community. Our inclusivity enables us to call ourselves ‘A Catholic school for all faiths’.

Students engage with two units of RE per term. One that is related to the Inquiry unit where the students’ experiences of their own life, the contemporary world and other faith perspectives are in dialogue with the Catholic tradition. A second unit is related to the liturgical season or a sacrament that is being celebrated in the faith community.

Student Sacramental Preparations

In the middle and senior year levels, students work closely with their teachers in preparation for celebrating the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation. It is always a joyful celebration between the students, families and the whole school community to present the students to the wider community as they receive their holy Sacraments. This is the schedule for the preparation and  celebration of sacraments at at MoGS:

  • Penance is celebrated annually, usually in Year 3
  • First Eucharist is celebrated biannually in even years, usually in Years 3 or 4
  • Confirmation is celebrated biannually in odd years, usually in Years 5 or 6.
